Canon Camera Connect is an application to transfer images shot with compatible Canon cameras to smartphone/tablet.

By connecting to a camera with Wi-Fi (direct connection or via wireless router), this application provides the following features:
・Transfer and save camera images to a smartphone.
・Remote shoot with live view imaging of the camera from a smartphone.
・Connect with Canon's various services.

This application also provides the following features for compatible cameras.
・Acquire location information from a smartphone and add it to the images on the camera.
・Switch to a Wi-Fi connection from pairing status with a Bluetooth enabled camera (or from touch operation with an NFC enabled camera)

- View assist doesn't work.This app need to add the option to use canon cinema_gamut 3D LUT. - UI design is really awful. They should have do a full screen display with semi transparent menu bar at the bottom that allow control overlay on top of the display image. - you can't modify Kelvin temperature from the app. - no option to display composition grid over the screen. - no zebra - no histogram This is not on par with R prices we need a better job Canon should be more Pro.

My wifi is fast, but the app communicating with my phone through the wifi is absolutely shocking. It's barely a step up from simply using the camera's timer. The whole point was to be able to focus on myself when in front of the camera, but it takes so long for the app/camera to respond through the wifi that it makes for a frustrating experience. I don't know why I can't just control the camera through a Bluetooth connection. It just doesn't give you the option. Could be so useful otherwise.

Canon Camera Connect is a convenient app for controlling your camera remotely. While it can be a bit tricky to set up initially, the live view and Bluetooth remote control features are invaluable. Once you get the hang of it, it's a great tool for capturing photos and videos as well as transferring your photos to your phone, tablet, or computer.

Wifi connectivity is purely a marketing gimmick for Canon. This software is about 30 years old and has never been updated, never! If you're very lucky you might be able to connect and click a basic picture. It would be a dream if they actually tried to get with the times and had full featured remote shooting (or even partial). App coding and device capability has progressed so far in that 30 years, but this is truly a dinosaur from the ground up. They don't know thier place in the current era.

The old app worked well. Unlike many of the raters here, I WANT the camera to link to the phone via Bluetooth so that pictures I take have location information in the metadata. (I travel a bit, and sometimes can't just where a particular picture was taken). Pairing is the difficult part: you MUST start with the phone and the camera in a "virgin" state. If there is a record on either device of a connection, you must delete it. Then the app will selfishly connect.

I had the app (older version app) in another phone and worked perfectly but, alas, not this version. I truly don't know why Canon make things more and more complex by the day.

Connecting to your camera is extremely unreliable despite multiple firmware updates claiming to improve it. Most of the time my phone fails to connect, and in the rare case it actually does work, it takes so long it's simply not worth the trouble. It's a shame because if it actually worked seemlessly this app would actually be a very useful companion for making my R8 have the conveniences of a phone camera.
