SPL(sound pressure level) meter app uses your microphone to measure noise volume in decibels(db), and shows a reference. We calibrated a lot of android devices using an actual sound meter with dB(A).
!! Most smart phone microphones were aligned to human voice (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). Therefore maximum value is LIMITED by manufacturers, and very loud sound(100+ dB) cannot be recognized. Moto G4 (max.94), Galaxy S6 (85dB), Nexus 5 (82dB)... You can trust the result in routine-noise levels (40-70dB). Please use it as an auxiliary tool.
Vibrometer uses the phone sensors to measure vibration or an earthquake, and it shows a reference as a seism detector.
The measured values are related to Modified Mercalli Intensity scale (MMI). If it is inaccurate, you can calibrate it so that maximum value is about 10-11. Please use the results only for reference because android devices have a wide variety of performance and sensitivity.

I taught theatrical sounds design at a major university for years. I had my students install this app on their phone to help analyze the acoustics of the theatre. It worked well. I later discovered they started using it to analyze classrooms around campus. It is easy to understand and use. While not as precise as dedicated sound meters it works well for a strong general understanding of the space.

If you read the developer's own description, then their thirteen measured intervals should be switched in the next version to 3dB spacing from 44-80dB. Three decibels is a doubling of sound -- perceptible to many people -- and the app's documentation says you can't really trust the last three readings even *if* they switched to the above improvement over the current version.. But it would be an good change, given the limitations above eighty decibels of many phones (and the limited accuracy of Sound Meter Pro)

Vastly limited by the microphone of your phone. They tell you this in their blog...after you've bought it. Phone are designed to pick up voice frequencies. Being a musician who needs to know how loud music is on stage and in my practice situation, this app is worthless to me. They should take the "Pro" out of the name. It's a toy.

Does not pick up low frequencies like the sound of a loud subwoofer through a wall. Yes it's the lack of range from the microphone on the phone which means this app is only as good as the device it is installed on. Waste of money and time.

The app is relatively accurate and useful, but stops recording / working when the app focus is switched. It would be good to have an option to continiously record / store vibration data when the app is running in the background.

I like the app, but I wish measurement would continue when the screen is off. Also would be useful to add a chart of lengths of safe exposure at each dB level, like OSHA and others provide. Not vital, but it would save s a step.

Great app for checking when sound pressure levels are hazardous on stage. I also use it to recalibrate my studio monitors for each phase of production. Despite being a mobile app it's very accurate. I benefit greatly from it.

I am undergoing speech therapy for a condition seen in Parkinson's patients where their voice just gets weaker and weaker. This application is great for showing me with a numerical score just how loud my voice it. Gives me a target to work against when I practice.
