Doesn't crash for me, but mobile experience is too simplistic and has poor UX. I subscribed, loaded the app, and pretty quickly decided to cancel my subscription, because the app makes consuming the news quite difficult. The design, particularly on mobile, is bad, take a look at top newspapers like NYTimes, or even the local SF Chronicle. There isn't a quick and easy way to get to important things like election coverage, or filter out stuff I don't want like sports (which eats the front page).

This new app is a mess! After 7 years of using the old app with no problems, this update just flat doesn't work! Been on the phone 3 separate times. Dumped the old app, reinstalled, changed email addresses and s and no matter what, it keeps telling me my name and is not valid (and that's with the help desk walking me thru the set up process step by step) Temp they gave me doesn't work. New email reset link never sent via email as promised. A total cluster

The search function is fully broken. Typing a text search is painful and tedious. Its constantly double-typing or trying to predict the search. Tried this on three different android phones and made sure my own phones autocomplete and word suggestions was disabled. The ads are annoying and full of political drivel that makes the ap frustrating. Would be great if the Mercury would put some filters on the ads displayed through their app. There are very dishonest and sketchy ments.

1. Tapping a push notification doesn't work to open the app 2. Trying to find an article that was presented in a push notification is extremely difficult 3. There is too much of a national/pop culture focus on the articles that are given prime real estate in the app. I subscribe because I want local info, not breaking news about Ukraine, or Taylor Swift's European tour. I have other news outlets for those things. 4. There's no way to fine tune what topics I get push notifications about.

The app is worse than using the webpage. I'd like to see the 'front page' of the app feature more stories and unique stories in each section. There's no reason to repeat the same stories in multiple sections when there are so few stories to begin with.

I loaded the app because it offered a larger font for reading. However, the cheezy articles/ments made me feel uneasy about the entire experience. I have a digital subscription and it wasn't clear whether I wa getting a free version or a subscriber one.

Notifications are very annoying. The text describes a new story but selecting it always takes me too an old story, sometimes days old. I then have to search for the new story and can't always find it. A big pain!

No highlight or copy text means one cannot easily do a web lookup for words, phrases or names referenced in articles, which is very useful when reading articles. Every other news app I use allows this. Really a poor app that doesn't allow such.
