SkySafari makes stargazing a simple pleasure. It has the largest database of any astronomy app, includes every solar system object ever discovered, offers unparalleled accuracy, advanced planning and logging tools, flawless telescope control, and provides the very best experience under the stars when you depend on it. Don’t postpone joy. Discover why SkySafari is the #1 recommended astronomy app for serious amateur astronomers since 2009.

Here's what’s new in version 7:

+ Complete for Android 10 and up. Version 7 brings a new and immersive stargazing experience.

+ Events Finder - go to the new Events section to unlock a powerful search engine that finds astronomical events visible tonight and far into the future. The finder dynamically generates a listing of moon phases, eclipses, planetary moon events, meteor showers and planetary phenomenon such as conjunctions, elongations and oppositions.

+ Notifications - the notifications section has been completely revamped to allow you to customize and manage which events trigger an alert notification on your device.

+ Telescope - telescope control is at the heart of SkySafari. Version 7 takes a giant leap forward by ing ASCOM Alpaca and INDI. These next generation control protocols allow you to effortlessly connect to hundreds of compatible astronomical devices.

Stargazing is often done on your own but looking up at the stars reminds us that we are all part of a larger interconnected universe. SkySafari 7 brings social stargazing to mobile devices with two new features to help you connect with other like minded people.

OneSky - allows you to see what other s are observing, in real time. This feature highlights objects in the sky chart and indicates with a number how many s are observing a particular object.

SkyCast - allows you to guide a friend or group around the night sky through their own copy of SkySafari. After initiating SkyCast, you can generate a link and conveniently share it with other SkySafari s via text message, apps or social media s.

+ Sky Tonight - jump to the new Tonight section to see what’s visible in your sky tonight. Expanded information has been designed to help plan your night and includes Moon & Sun info, calendar curations, events and the best positioned deep sky and solar system objects.

+ Improved Observation Tools - SkySafari is the perfect tool to help you plan, record and organize your observations. New workflows make it easier to add, search, filter and sort data.

The Small Touches:

+ You can now edit the Jupiter GRS Longitude Value in the Settings.
+ Better Moon Age calculation.
+ New grid & reference options allow you to display Solstice and Equinox markers, Orbit + Node markers for all solar system objects, and tick marks and labels for the Ecliptic, Meridian, and Equator reference lines.
+ Previous In-app Purchases are Now Free - this includes the H-R diagram, 3D Galaxy view, and the PGC galaxy and GAIA star catalogs. Enjoy.
+ Many more.

If you haven't used SkySafari 7 Pro before, here's what you can do with it:

+ Hold your device up, and SkySafari 7 Pro will find stars, constellations, planets, and more! The star chart updates automatically with your movements for the ultimate stargazing experience.

+ Simulate the night sky up to 100,000 years in the past or future! Animate meteor showers, conjunctions, eclipses, and other celestial events.

+ Control your telescope, log and plan your observations.

+ Optionally backup all of your observing data in our secure cloud storage and make it easily accessible to multiple devices as well as from our new web interface, LiveSky.com.

+ Night Mode turns the screen red to preserve your eye's ability to see faint objects.

+ Orbit Mode. Leave the Earth’s surface behind, and fly through our solar system.

+ Galaxy View shows the position of deep sky objects in our Milky Way!

+ Much more!

Edit: There is a way to hide the Only content. I just did not see it. On the Sky Tonight Page if you hit the arrows top right you can toggle off the Sections. Review changed to 4 stars (minus one for Subscriptions in a app) Original review: Not liking all of the in your face Subscription stuff. I have no desire to subscribe to apps, especially after paying for the app. Please offer a way to hide the only content...

I used Stellarium Mobile for years but bought this for telescope control, but holy moly, this is so much better in just about every way. It provides pictures of almost everything you can search for, it highlights deep space objects in a non intrusive way which makes locating stuff crazy easy, and it has far more objects turned on by default (whereas it was always a pain getting the right catalog loaded into stellarium). I'm super happy with this, definitely the premier sky finder app.

Love the app after they fixed their initial issue with notifications! Original Review: Notifications need some serious work! My phone is on vibrate and it still plays sound. I also set a do not disturb timeframe of 1 am to 9pm - so basically daylight and when I'll be in bed. I think it's reversing those times because I keep getting alerts in the day and saw nothing last night (from 9pm to 1am). Otherwise, the refreshed layout from the previous version looks way more polished. I like it.

I like it, but I'm sticking with 6 for now - mostly because, for the life of me, I can't get rid of the annoying orange circles that needlessly highlight the solar system objects. That big bright yellow thing is the Sun? Ah, good to know. Plus, the only way I could see to reach the developers is through a forum. The rest of the app is great, but these two issues are a huge irritation. Disabling the orange circles should be intuitive and you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get help.

Used Sky Safari in the past. It was okay. It's never been an intuitive experience to use. Because of this, I waited until it predictably went on sale for $9.99 for the 2024 eclipse. Buying it for $49.99 is about as wasteful and annoying as a bed bug infestation when learning how to use it. Skeye, Stellarium, and venerable Skymap are easier to use, though not as feature rich.

I was hesitant at first to use Sky Safari 7 Pro. I loved 6, and the touted improvements to the UI seemed just like frustrating changes. But having committed to the switch I have to say it's totally worth it. As someone who doesn't use the new social features, I would like to have a preference where clicking the settings button on the bottom ribbon takes you straight to the settings menu. Another thing I would love is when you load the calendar event, if it could not turn on your com.

Unusable. The icons at the bottom of the display were outlines in Version 6. Now they are solid, so they have become blindingly bright, even in red mode. The new fonts are also too bright. Also, the grid lines have changed from high contrast, high visibility green, which suited dim screens, to low contrast, hard-to-see-at-any-brightness brown, rendering them hard to see. The new features are not important if one can not read the display. Stick with Version 6.

Without doubt, the most complete astro app that I have ever used or heard of. Unfortunately, it is difficult to increase completeness without also rising complexity... and, in my humble opinion, the step up in completeness from SkySafari Pro 6 to 7, has unfortunately led to a disproportionate increase of complexity of the interface. In addition, when I modify my location from current to one from the list, the display reverses to my current location within less than a minute. Annoying!
