I can read articles, that's about the only good thing. Is the only newspaper I subscribe to where I can't get the app to automatically launch when I click an article link. It opens in browser and won't let me view because it logs me out in browser regularly, so I have to open the app and then search for the article. That search functionality is also super inconsistent and often shows older articles ahead of those published that day.

The only irritating aspect of the digital experience is whenever I try the browser version it challenges me for subscription: I need to re and it acknowledges. Once I go back to read articles from home it goes into a loop and challenges all over. Sometimes I need to use browser and this doesn't help - this may not be an app issue. But bad experience nevertheless. Otherwise, the app lets you read articles. Moreover, the feature to gift article works only from browser mode of dig. Edn. - sad

Easy to use and updates regularly. Really enjoy the interactive articles. Notifications of breaking news is helpful too. Lots of photos, maps and charts. The additional interactive features are great. There are many restaurant reviews for locally owned businesses. They've added a food search tool. Regular columnists contribute insights and opinions on life in the Bay Area, politics, culture and racial equity.

I had to pull out my seven year old phone to read an article because that phone was logged into the app. Meanwhile using my brand new phone I can't . The button for existing subscribers to doesn't do anything. It isn't obviously greyed out or disabled, it just doesn"t do anything, as if they forgot to build the part of the app that makes the button work.

Reading articles is mostly fine. It's annoying to not be able to zoom in on the photos. I end up doing screengrabs and zooming in on that. Doing the crossword had become impossible, with the inability to scroll, I can't see the bottom half of it. It's always been annoying to do, as the selected cell gets overwritten instead of moving on, but now the bottom half is actually completely blocked. And for the price, we should be able to access all of the puzzles via the app.

The introductory offer is excellent, couldn't afford not to get it. I've subscribed online before and I had a gratifying experience so it wasn't a stretch to take the subscription again. It's an excellent app, easy to use, full of informative and thoughtful discourse about the issues of the day, and I always find something interesting that I hadn't planned on seeing there.

This app has a hopeless layout for daily readers. It is frustrating trying to find new daily content because they prioritize features and lists. As a result I've continued trying to read the e-edition, which they are making harder to use. I subscribe to the NY Times, The Washington Post and the Athletic and all are a pleasure. The Chronicle needs a serious UX reboot.

--Updated The splash screen with the Chronicle logo just hangs sometimes until reboot. -- Really terrific app. Had been relying on the website for my e-subscription but the app is a game changer and is now my go to source for daily news, especially Bay Area related. Also, it's easy to link to the print edition in both e-reader mode as well as a digital replica. The app really added a ton of value to my subscription. Thanks to all the fine folks on 5th & Mission!
