This app makes it quite easy to read Scientific American online. It has its little annoyances though. It doesn't your place when you come back later to continue reading. There's no dark mode unfortunately. I've been reading SA for about 50 years and I have to say it's certainly changed. The articles are not as in depth as they once were. not as many of those great hand drawn diagrams explaining complex topics.

ing issues has issues. I'm not sure why there's an option to articles because you can't read them unless you're online. If I'm not online when I start the app the screen sits blank with the spinning wheel. If I want to read offline I have to go somewhere with wifi or cell service, start the app, let the menu load, and then I can read ed articles if I lose service. 🤔 Very poor design from a magazine that is supposed to be on the cutting edge of science.

App is good, but it would be nice if it could where in an article the was. Right now when the app closes or reloads, I have to scroll through the article to find the spot. Edit 2021 Now the app always opens to the front page and not even on my s, which is even more annoying than it not ing where in the article I was. I just want to read my subscriptions...

The content is great and easy to read. However, the app keeps forgetting me and tells me I don't have a current subscription and some of the previous issues I've ed now cost me $6.99. This happens about every couple of months. SA has helped but the only cure I've been given is to log out and then again. Of course most of my s are lost so I have to reload them all again. SA knows but has not fixed the problem.

The new version is better, but it still gets confused. I use VPNs always and I think it causes an issue for this app. Over time it forgets (expired or bad token in bg?), and once it does, you cannot access your online subscription or other functions. I have to reinstall it, very annoying. Still waited for a real fix and better QA with this app. 11/29 - Still broken, no digital magazine access.

Although I am a subscriber, I just can't some issues - I mean, sometimes I can, while most of the time the only option is to buy an issue instead of ing it. It seems totally random. I can read the same magazine issues online without a problem. Also, even when I'm logged in, it says I'm not authorized to see my own details. That's a very poorly designed application.

I like Scientific American content but the android implementation leaves a lot to be desired. After several years of development the application still lacks a basic functionality of ing a reading position. The latest update did not improve things but instead made navigation a bit more complicated and broke offline functionality. The app s the text of the articles but all of the graphics is missing in the offline mode.

Was gifted an unlimited subscription. I had to fight for weeks to get access to the digital content on the app, which is poorly designed and a pain to use. They also never sent me any of the print copies that had been paid for, I eventually had to argue with them to get a refund because they simply don't provide the services that they make you pay for. I use to love this periodical, but they've lost me. Under no circumstances subscribe.
