App Features and Games:

NEW: STRANDS
Our latest game lets you find hidden words and uncover the day’s theme. It’s the word search you know, with a twist.

WORDLE
Play the original Wordle — created by Josh Wardle — in our app. Guess the 5-letter word in 6 tries or less, and analyze your guesses with WordleBot.

SPELLING BEE
Is scrambling your strong suit? Play the daily Spelling Bee and see how many words you can make with 7 letters.

THE CROSSWORD
Subscribers can play the same daily puzzle that’s printed in The New York Times, in our app. Crosswords increase in difficulty throughout the week, so there’s something for everyone.

CONNECTIONS
Group words with a common thread. See if you can do it with four mistakes or fewer.

SUDOKU
Looking for a numbers game, minus the math? Play Sudoku and fill each 3x3 set of boxes with numbers 1–9. Play a new puzzle every day in easy, medium or hard mode.

THE MINI CROSSWORD
The Mini is all the fun of The Crossword, but you can solve it in seconds. These word games don’t increase in difficulty throughout the week and feature simpler clues.

TILES
Unwind while you match elements in the day’s pattern — the key is to make consecutive matches.

LETTER BOXED
Create words using letters around the square. Letter Boxed is another fun way to test your word-making skills.

STATS
Track your progress for The Crossword, Wordle and Spelling Bee. For The Crossword, monitor your average solve times, see how many puzzles you can solve in a row, and more. Plus follow your streak on Wordle, and track how often you reach each level in Spelling Bee.

I LOVE the NYT Games app! There's just the right amount of challenges. I really enjoy the availability of short or long games, along with being able to stop, put my phone or tablet down, & come back to start again, in case I get busy or my mind needs a break. The new features of keeping up with stats and the ability to go back & do games I've missed is an added bonus. I'm in a Wordle group of friends that range from early 20's to nearly 50 years old. I love how all ages can play. Thank you!

Ack. I had dark mode for the Bee for less than a week before the blessed feature disappeared. I didn't know if you're A/B testing, changing your mind, or what. Quite frustrating to regress like that. Immediate edit: I went back after writing this review and it switched back to dark mode. So more likely just a bug picking up my settings.

I have really enjoyed playing the NYT's daily Wordle, but for some odd reason, it randomly deletes my win streak and resets to 0. Frustrating, because it knocked out my 96 or 98 win streak juat this past week, so I'm at 4 games only. (Actually, it pisses me off.) Earlier this year, it was resetting me to 0 every 2-3 weeks, but this time I was SO close to 100. Is there anything you can do on your end to fix whatever glitch is causing this? Thank you!

The app sucks. I am a subscriber but it constantly logs me out and even logged in half the time it says I need to resubscribe. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and no resolution. Update: it still logs me out every time I navigate away from Spelling Bee. Last week wasn't saving Spelling Bee play. This week I can't open the crossword at all. Wordle works fine. If I could give this zero stars I would. Update: 2024 and problems again w/ this app. Can't access content I paid for.

I loved this app. Enough to have a 200 some odd day streak in Wordle. Then, the ads started showing up. When NYT first bought wordle, we were told our wordle experience wouldn't change, and a few years later, now that everyone has forgotten that those things were said, it seems NYT did as well. I have no patience for ads anymore in this day and age. This was an easy uninstall after the change.

What happened to all the free sample crosswords? I was halfway through the "pack" samples and they're suddenly just not available anymore. I was right in the middle of a puzzle... 🙄🙄🙄 UPDATE #1: The free sample crosswords are still unavailable. Guess we just don't get those anymore with the free version. UPDATE #2: Cool new ads...said nobody ever. I like the games, but I'm getting tired of watching the free experience get worse and worse. 😩

Ads are bad unless there is additional functionality. I liked the app because I could start/stop playing within seconds & could turn off the part of my brain that performs critical thinking. I was thinking of a subscription until now. Somehow my most recent review was rolled back? My opinion of the New York times is suddenly dropping. They buy something to put it behind a paywall and ads.

2 weeks ago, I would have given this 5 stars. It was my nightly ritual before sleep on my tablet. Suddenly, I can't get the app to work on my kindle after months of play. I had hoped to fix the problem by Uninstaller and reloading it, but now Google Play says it can't function on my kindle. The font is too small on my phone. (I ed it on my phone so I could get in to write this review. ) So much for years of hip...guess it's time for Kindle folks to cancel their subscriptions.
