A game I made
For a certain kind of person

To hurt them.

Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a punishing climbing game, a homage to Jazzuo's 2002 B-Game classic 'Sexy Hiking'. You move the hammer with the mouse, and that's all there is. With practice, you'll be able to jump, swing, climb and fly. Great mysteries and a wonderful reward await the master hikers who reach the top of the mountain.

To quote Jazzuo himself: "The hiking action is very similar to way you would do it in real life, that and you will do well".

• Climb up an enormous mountain with nothing but a hammer and a pot.
• Listen as I make philosophical observations about the problem at hand.
• Between 2 and ∞ hours of agonizing gameplay, depending. The median time to finish for my playtesters was 5 hours, but the mean was closer to ∞.
• Lose all your progress, over and over.
• Feel new types of frustration you didn't know you were capable of.

This game is absolutely INFURIATING. I just rage quit AGAIN because I am simply inadequate, in saying that, I LOVE IT. It delivers exactly as you would expect, senselessly difficult obstacles, insane loss of progress, beautiful scenery, and of course that annoying little heckler that keeps coming fun at my failures, all of which comes together perfectly in this addictive climb to the top. The only issue is the controls, but they seem to work better after some settings adjustments.

I love and hate this game. I love the originality and the positive message. But I hate the controls. I get that it's supposed to be hard, but still. The controls aren't intuitive. It feels like there's very little correlation between the movements of my finger and the actions the character does. It's on the wrong side of that line between "challenging and rewarding" and "just frustrating."

Adjust sensitivity? Check. Keep adjusting to get the right feel for the game? Check. Game still glitchy? CHECK CHECK CHECK. It's so bad it makes for miserable gameplay. Maybe it's my phone (Samsung S24 Ultra) but the guy will just randomly glitch and you have no control and lose massive amounts of progress. I love challenging games, I could spend days playing tryin for the next benchmark. But when there's app issues, it takes away the fun and becomes miserable. Swing and a miss (pun intended)

The game is hard. You begin to figure out, focus on the hammer only as the axis point of grip. And imagine a circle around the hammer 360 degrees of the touch screen. Now a protractor to move the hammer closer and away from you in a linier line. I watched a speed run to get better at the positions. The commentary's wants you to get mad don't you'll lose progress and motivation to continue. The music is a shot at the player enjoy it. Over all there is moments where you feel accomplishment.

This game should 4-5 stars, but people are dumb and give the game 1 star because it's a hard game, ignore all bad reviews. Getting Over It is one of the best games if you're looking for a challenge. You need skill and finesse to make any progress, and you often lose large amounts of progress because of one mistake. That being said, this is one of the most rewarding games. You learn to expect failure and to celebrate progress. It provides an amazing and frustrating experience that is unrivaled.

I like the game, and I know it's about the experience. The problem is the controls are much more difficult to manage on mobile. I've tried the Steam version of it, the controls were easier to manage. I wish the swipes don't have the same intensity like you should be able to either go slow and easy or go fast and hard, like on PC. The swings are always the same intensity on mobile so you can't really control your positioning.

Don't listen to people complaining about the controls. Yes it is hard and has a learning curve and that's the point. The point isn't really to beat it, it's how you respond when you lose. You can see the ion put into every piece of terrain, Everytime you fall the developer hits you with a philosophy line. One of the most challenging games I've ever played, it's rewarding to see yourself improve with each run. What took you 2 hours one day might take you 5 min the next. This should be 5/5

Works Surprisingly Well. I just started playing on PC yesterday. I saw there was an Android port *and* it was on sale, so I *immediately* bought it. The controls are actually surprisingly good, and I can play almost as easily on my phone with my finger as I can on my PC with a mouse. Hint: the whole screen works like a trackpad, with relative motion from wherever you initially place your finger. Be gentle. Be subtle. Take your time. You'll be hammering your way up that mountain like a pro soon!
