Exceptional app as far as the bird identification tools and information goes. It would however be nice to be able to record additional sitings of a particular species in your lifetime list, as it only allows recording of first siting, unless you start a new list everytime. With names changing quite often, it would help to include previous names in the description, and allow the search functionality to pop it up in the results.

Great info and love the pictures and birdsong, but the smart search doesn't seem to work too well and I find navigating around the app a bit cumbersome, ie from the taxonomic index to adding a bird to my list. Would be wonderful if there was just an "add to my list" button from the taxonomic index. At the moment I'm still asking Google what bird I'm seeing as the app doesn't appear to help me much to identify unknown birds. Looking forward to upgrades.

If you're on the fence about buying the updated app, it's well worth it. It has an updated full Afrikaans and English text; descriptions of bird groups; and updated plates for difficult birds - especially for sea birds, raptors and night jars which helps a lot. The UI has also been updated, and previous database mistakes have been corrected. Also a lot more calls. There are some photos only available in the previous version and not this one, so I'll keep both installed.

Excellent Southern African bird app. Easy to use with all the features one would expect to find in a bird app. Especially impressed by the vast number of bird calls included, the variety of photographs for each bird, and the accuracy of distribution maps. Another useful feature allows for the comparison of two species next to each other. No regrets since purchasing this app, and great that it's a once-off payment and not subscription based.

Whilst I love the app layout and look and it's very friendly, I am very frustrated because when I try the live view for my location which is near Cintsa in the Eastern Cape it says that there are no birds in my area. I have tried at a few locations along this part of the coast and it says the same thing. It does however work in other provinces. Also it would be great if you could add the option of ing your own photos for each bird.

Not at all friendly. Cannot pull a list for my location. Cannot work out how to save to my list. Robert's outperforms this app in every way. Further comment... experience just gets worse. Completely unfriendly. Down graded rating to 1 star. Is just a horrible -unfriendly app

Great app, thanks for the updates. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the UI which still looks pretty old school (Android 8 like). The other issue is that the information for each bird is pretty basic, compared to Roberts which gives way more info. However your app is nicer to use. EDITSept 2021: still very little info on the birds, nothing on breeding, nests etc. Edit: Jan2025, STILL only really basic info... Frustrating!

For a non-technology person like me the 'search' facility of the app is useless and that's putting it mildly! We've just returned from KNP and found a few 'unknowns'. I entered the required specs and was told the bird does not exist. To test it I entered the specs for 3 birds I'm familiar with, i.e. Pied Kingfisher, Martial Eagle and White-backed Vulture. The result was the same! If it was was not for the special promo price I would not have ed the app. COMPLETE RUBBISH. Almost forgot the list option falls in the same category!
